Slovakia is negotiating with Ford Motor Co. on the construction of a plant in eastern Slovakia, the Slovak News Agency TASR reports Wednesday, citing reports in local media.
Economic daily Hospodarske Noviny said Ford has been considering a plant in Slovakia for over a year and adds that a mayor of Kechnec, a small town near Kosice in eastern Slovakia, has been negotiating the investment. The mayor of Kechnec, Jozef Konkoly, confirmed that talks are to be held with a large potential investor, but did not disclose a name. „It's a renewed world brand, which is planning to make top of the range cars in the east,” the newspaper quoted Konkoly as saying, adding a decision is expected to be taken within three months.
The newspaper said several countries in the region, including the Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria and Croatia are also vying for the plant. Ford already produces gear boxes in the industrial park as part of its Getrag Ford Transmission joint venture with Germany's Getrag. (marketwatch.com, hemscott.com)
