Fly Balaton airport opened a new passenger terminal on Tuesday and received its first Ryanair flight to Hungary from London, Hungarian-Irish airport operator company Cape Clear Aviation announced on Tuesday.
The new Ft 2 billion terminal in Sármellék in west Hungary, near lake Balaton, has capacity to handle 300,000 passengers a year. Talks are already underway with international companies operating in Zala County on a new phase of development to set up an aviation cargo logistics centre, Ágoston Gubicza, managing director of Cape Clear Aviation said.
The airport currently serves flights to 12 destinations, including Denmark, Switzerland, Germany and Russia and new flights are planned to start in the upcoming months, Gubicza said.
Ryanair's new flight between Sármellék and London Stansted will operate three times a week.
