The Fertőszentmiklós airport, near Hungary's border with Austria, along with its operator, Meidl Airport Kft, is up for sale, with an asking price of Ft 1.5 billion, Meidl Aiport's CEO Róbert Tóth said in Tuesday's issue of business daily Napi Gazdaság.
The sale means an uncertain future for developments at the airport, Tóth said, noting that more than Ft 1 billion has been spent by the airport's current Austrian owner over the last 10 years. This year, more developments were planned, including expanding the airport's runway from 800 to 1,500 meters, to eventually allow bigger passenger and cargo aircraft to land. The airport handled 3,000 passengers on 800 flights last year.
