Farm gate prices rose 4.2% in February 2006 compared to a year earlier, with crop prices increasing 9.7% and live animal and animal product prices falling 0.8%, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported on Wednesday.
In January-February farm gate prices rose 3.3%, with crop prices rising 8.9% and animal product prices down 1.6%. Farm gate prices rose 0.7% in 2005, with crop prices down 0.6% and live animal and animal product prices up 1.8%. In February, the average price of grain crops rose 2.4% year on year, while in January-February it rose 1%. Vegetable prices rose 25.8% year on year in February and were up 23.9% year on year in January-February, while fruit prices rose 24.6% in February and 23.1% in January-February.
