Alpine Electronics has shut down production at its base in Japan because of damage caused by the earthquake, but production is continuing at the Japanese company's unit in Hungary, an official at the unit told MTI.
Production at the Alpine Electronics base in Biatorbágy, near Budapest, is continuing, said Attila Cserpes. The unit is even taking over some functions from the parent company, he added.
Alpine Electronics' Hungarian unit had revenue of €220 million in 2010 Cserepes said. The plant in Biatorbágy employs about a thousand people.
Alpine Electronics makes car stereos and navigation systems. Among its business partners are BMW, Daimler, Honda and Volvo.
