Hungary's biggest digital television companies had 1.49 million subscribers at the end of April 2011, up about 10,000 from a month earlier, the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) said on Thursday.
The data cover Hungary's twelve biggest digital television service providers, which control 80-85% of the market.
The number of their digital subscribers with cable or IPTV connections rose by 9,000 to 598,000 during the month. The number with satellite connections climbed 1,000 to 892,000.
About 3.1 million Hungarian households are pay-television subscribers. About 700,000 households watch analogue, digital or satellite television content for which broadcasters do not charge. Subscriptions at the twelve service providers gauged in the NMHH data totaled 2.703 million at the end of April.
Taking into account all services, UPC was market leader at the end of February with a market share of 30.2%, up from 28.8% a month earlier, while Magyar Telekom's market share was unchanged at 24.8% and the share of DIGI rose to 26.9% from 26.8%.
