Hungary’s biggest digital television companies had 1,423,000 subscribers at the end of December 2010, up 38,000 from a month earlier, the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) said.
The data cover Hungary's twelve biggest digital television service providers, who control 80-85% of the market.
The number of their digital subscribers with cable or IPTV connections rose by 20,000 to 557,000 during the month. The number with satellite connections climbed by 19,000 to 867,000.
A little more than 3 million Hungarian households are pay television subscribers. About 800,000 households watch analogue, digital or satellite television content for which broadcasters do not charge. Subscriptions at the twelve service providers totaled 2,666,000 at the end of December.
Taking into account all services, the market share of UPC fell to 29.0% from 20.9% at the end of November, the share of DIGI was unchanged at 25.9% in December, while the share of Magyar Telekom rose to 25.0% in December from 24.9% in November.
