Delphi Hungary Kft, the Hungarian arm of motor components manufacturer Delphi, decided on sacking 400 people out of its total workforce of 1,350 at its plant in Szombathely, west Hungary, business daily Napi Gazdaság reported.
Zoltán Jámbor, HR and Communications director at Delphi Hungary, said that they had already notified the Vas county employment council about their intentions and that talks regarding severance terms with the employees affected will commence in two weeks' time. According to Napi Gazdaság information the reason for the layoffs is the high wage costs in Hungary as compared to Slovakia where the company plans to relocate part of its production.
