Court upholds decision to fine BAT

The Supreme Court has upheld a decision by the municipal court of Budapest backing a resolution by the national consumer protection agency NFH fining British American Tobacco (BAT) HUF 300 million for illegal promotion of their products

The NFH fined BAT for offering people a free gift with the purchase of cigarettes, a type of promotion prohibited by law for the tobacco industry.

BAT told MTI it had paid the fine in 2008 and halted the promotions immediately after the first-instance ruling. (MTI - Econews)
