According to the daily Napi Gazdaság, Germany’s car parts maker Continental AG will build a testing grounds for electronic braking systems (EBS) and their components in Hungary, near city Veszprém, through an investment of billions of forints.
It will be one of the largest testing grounds in the CEE region and will probably be completed by the end of 2008. The site will be about 15 kilometers to 20 kilometers from Veszprém, but the exact location will be decided on later, probably within the month. The tracks are planned to also host models that are not on the market yet, so a degree of secrecy has to be kept. The test center will create about 30 jobs. News of the development was confirmed by Veszprém-based Continental Teves Magyarország Kft.
Continental created the development center in Veszprém in 2001 and decided to also deploy the center of the company’s EBS development and production sector in the town. Continental operates two factories in Hungary. The other one is Budapest-based Continental Termic Kft, where the latest, Ft 700 million ($4 million) investment, a 2500 square meter hall, also to be used for making EBS-parts, will be completed by the spring of 2008.
