Construction work on the new Syma conference centre with capacity to hold 4,300 people could start in September, later than originally planned, the business daily Napi Gazdaság said on Thursday, quoting Syma+SD Kft Managing Director András Szántó.
The delay is due to the fact that financing issues took longer than planned to be settled.
The Hungarian Development Bank has already approved the company's loan application; Syma is now waiting for the bank's irrevocable offer. When that is received, the company will sign the loan agreement and the construction work will be started. If the development begins by autumn, it will still be possible to keep to the original completion deadline of end-2011.
The existing centre's halls C and B will be rebuilt to establish a conference hall of international standard, seating 1,500 and divisible into 24 section rooms.
Syma has won EU HUF 950m in funding to support the conference centre development. As a result of the HUF 5.8 billion investment, the combined area of the Syma Sports and Events Centre will be expanded by 21,000sqm to 51,000sqm. (MTI-Econews)
