Construction companies appeal HUF 7 billion in fines for cartel activity

The Hungarian units of France's Colas and Austrian construction companies Swietelsky and Strabag have appealed a combined HUF 7 billion in fines levied by Hungary's Competition Office (GVH) for cartel activity, daily Népszava reported on Wednesday. GVH said in June it fined Colas' Hungarian unit HUF 1.5 billion, Swietelsky unit MAVEPCELL HUF 2.1 billion and Strabag's Szentesi Vasútépítő HUF 3.4 billion for colluding in tenders to rebuild railways. A fourth company, MÁV MTVM, was fined HUF 178 million for participating in the cartel, but it has since gone under liquidation. (MTI-Econews)
