Conference tourism up in Hungary despite crisis

During the first nine months of this year Hungary hosted 235 conferences that met the criteria of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), 40% more than during the corresponding period of 2009, business dailies Napi Gazdaság and Vilaggazdaság said on Monday.

The conferences were attended by over 60,000 participants as against 58,000 a year before.

Their average length has also increased, from 3.5 to 4.4 days.

83% of participants arrived from abroad. The conferences attracted representatives of 12 nations on average.

Nearly 80% of these events were organised in hotels, 9% in convention centres and the rest in universities or other venues. (MTI-ECONEWS)
