Hungary's Competition Office (GVH) on Tuesday said it fined discount chain Lidl HUF 10 million for “unfair business practices”.
Lidl used the line "The best prices in the last six years!" in several of its advertisements. The GVH said the advertising slogan failed to specify that the prices pertained only to the chain's prices and not those of competitors. The advertisements ran for several weeks, the competition office weighed the fine accordingly.
In addition, Lidl failed to make the same specification when using the slogan "We are waiting for you again with the best prices in 2011."
