Hungary's Central Agricultural Office imposed HUF 2.5 billion in fines for violation of food-safety regulations in the course of 50,000 inspections during the second half of 2010, the office informed MTI.
The office said that it had fined major retail food chains Cora HUF 188 million, Lidl HUF 155 million, Tesco HUF 130 million and Penny HUF 109 million for unethical practices during the period.
The office noted that it confiscated and destroyed 600,000 eggs of uncertain origin during the second half of the year. (MTI – Econews)
