When buying used cars, the citizens of the Central European countries prefer the brands which are – considered to have been – made in their home nations, concludes the survey conducted by Amsterdam-headquartered new and used vehicle retailer AAA Auto Group N.V. among its clients.
In the Czech Republic Skoda accounts for 37% of AAA’s sales, with the most popular used cars being Skoda Fabia, Skoda Felicia and Skoda Octavia. Slovakian patriotism is also embodied in Skoda: 36% share. South Korea’s Kia Motors Corp. has recently started car production in Slovakia, which makes AAA expect similar interest in used Kia cars soon, said deputy chairman Matyas Korínek.
In Hungary, where there is a Suzuki factory in Esztergom, Suzuki has a higher than average share (18%) in AAA’s sales, the list is headed by Suzuki Swift, Suzuki Ignis and Suzuki WagonR+. In Poland, which hosts several Opel assembly halls, this brand has a 17% share, the most popular used cars are Opel Astra, Opel Vectra and Opel Corsa.
Romania prefers Dacia (14% share) with Dacia Logan, Dacia Solenza and Dacia Supernova having the first three places. The extensive sale and service networks of the “domestic” brands also contribute to their popularity, and in many cases they enjoy favorable insurance conditions as well, said Korínek.
