Car sales show surprise recovery

New car sales in Hungary were up nearly a fifth in July compared to a year earlier in a sign the country's auto trade market has turned the corner, fresh data released by Datahouse shows.

Hungarians bought 4,400 new cars in July, up 19.2% from a year earlier, in a spectacular turnaround from June, when sales fell by a quarter from the corresponding period last year.

Sales were down 40% in January-June compared to the same period last year.

The top sellers were Ford, Volkswagen and Opel with respective market shares of 12.8%, 10.8% and 10.7%. (BBJ)
