Demand for domestically produced foodstuff is higher than it usually is this time of the year in Hungary, the daily Népszava reported after surveying hypermarket operators.
Besides an effective marketing strategy conducted over the past months, the changes are also due to the fact that when it comes to fruits and vegetables, Hungarian buyers are typically patriotic and go for the home-grown variety, said Katalin Gillemot, head of communications at Auchan Magyarország Kft.
Retailers are only too happy to oblige their customers’ demands in this respect, since it is cheaper to procure goods from local farmers, she added. (Népszava)
