The Kempinski Hotel Corvinus Budapest on Monday became the first five-star hotel to join Hotelstars, a harmonized hotel classification system established in 2009.
To date, 272 hotels in Hungary have registered for Hotelstars and 81 have been classified.
About 18,000 hotels have joined Hotelstars to date, said Hotels, Restaurants and Cafes in Europe (HOTREC) deputy head Susanne Winkler.
Hotelstars was established by the hotels associations of Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland in December 2009. Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania joined in 2011.
