Budapest Airport calls closed tender for ground services unit

Budapest Airport Rt has announced a closed tender for the sale of Budapest Airport Handling (BAH) Kft, the company providing ground services for aircraft at Budapest’s Ferihegy airport. The airport operator has invited several international professional investors to participate in the bidding, the press release said.

„Selling the ground service unit is part of our strategy announced in January,” Stewart Wingate, acting CEO of Budapest Airport, said. „Ground services do not strictly belong to the regular tasks of an airport operator and can be managed much more effectively by specialists. The service will become cheaper for airlines and we also expect its quality to improve. Budapest Airport, on the other hand, will be able to concentrate better on its core activities.”

BAH currently has more than 500 employees, who will still be protected by the current collective contract, in effect until September 2008, after the sale.
Potential buyers have until the end of June to carry out due diligence at BAH. Bids must be submitted by July and the contract is expected to be signed in August.

In other news, Budapest Airport also plans to call a tender for the sale of its airport shuttle service in July.
