Canada's Bombardier on Monday presented the first delivery of state-owned Hungarian railway company MÁV's €80 million order of TRAXX locomotives.
Bombardier showed the locomotive in Budapest's Nyugati station.
MÁV placed an €80 million order for 25 Bombardier TRAXX locomotives with an option to buy a further 25 in November 2008. The European Investment Bank and Germany's KfW IPEX Bank are financing the purchase.
The first TRAXX locomotives are expected to be put on the tracks in the summer of 2011, said deputy-CEO of MÁV traction unit MÁV-Trakció Ferenc Marton. Delivery of all 25 locomotives will be completed by the end of 2011, he added.
The process of applying for operating permits for the rail vehicles, in Germany and Austria, as well as in Hungary, is underway. (MTI – Econews)
