Finnish airline Blue1 launched on May 1 a scheduled flight between Helsinki and Budapest, to operate three times every week, Budapest Airport Rt announced on Tuesday.
A member of the SAS group, Blue1 joined Malév, Finnair and Sterling in offering scheduled flights between Budapest's Ferihegy airport and Helsinki's Vantaa airport.
Blue1 is the 48th airline to operate scheduled flights from Ferihegy. About 175,000 Finnish passengers used Ferihegy airport in 2005, up 10% from the previous year and accounting for 2.1% of total passenger turnover.
The number of Scandinavian passengers increased 68% to 622,000 in 2005, accounting for 7.7% of all passenger traffic. Malév, SAS, Finnair, Sterling, Blue1, Norwegian Air, SkyEurope and WizzAir offer a combined 104 flights to the region each week.
