BKV to improve night shift service

One of the new lines, number 937, following west European example, will have a stretch of route where passengers have to make a call to make the bus come for them.

Transportation company BKV Zrt will carry out a three-stage development in night time transportation. First, from tomorrow, there will be five new lines added and four of the existing ones extended, said company official Sándor Bősze at a press conference yesterday. One of the new lines, number 937, following west European example, will have a stretch of route where passengers have to make a call to make the bus come for them.

The next stage of the development will result in capacity expansion from 1 December, through adding more or larger buses. The third stage is meant to improve the connection systems, which we can check from 12 January.

In 2007 public transportation fares will cost more, said Budapest mayor Gábor Demszky, without disclosing the rate. It will not be any more shocking than the 15% or 10% was in 2005 and 2006, said deputy mayor Imre Ikvai-szabó. BKV needs Ft 120 billion a year and fare revenues cover about Ft 43-45 billion, he added. (Napi Gazdaság, Magyar Hírlap)
