Austrian-owned BECOM Electronics Hungary on Thursday laid the cornerstone of a HUF 480 million production hall at its base in Tatabánya (NW Hungary).
BECOM Electronics Hungary won a HUF 144 million European Union grant for the project.
BECOM Electronics Hungary will make digital electricity meters in the production hall, making 20 new hires to work the new capacity, said managing director Johann Bock. After the hall is inaugurated, BECOM plans HUF 820 million of technology upgrades, he added.
In addition to the electricity meters, BECOM Electronics Hungary makes LED displays and communications systems. The company had revenue of more than HUF 1.8 billion in 2009.
