Azerbaijan's Ministry of Communication and Information Technologies said the negotiations are continuing with Kazakhstan over construction of the Caspian Sea stretch of the Trans-Asia-Europe (TAE) fiber-optic line.
The line provides digital circuits for transmitting voice, data, fax and video information. The Ministry said a special consortium, including Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, will soon be set up to deal with the relevant issues. It is scheduled the feasibility study will soon end, and the construction is expected to start in June, the Ministry said. Participants in the TAE project include China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Turkey, Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, Romania, Hungary, Austria, Germany, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Pakistan and Afghanistan, Kazinform cites AzerTac.
