Hungarian wire harness maker Axe-Tronic will shut down its plant in Mezőberény (SE Hungary), laying off more than 300 workers, because its main customer, US car maker Ford, will buy wire assemblies from Ukraine, business daily Napi Gazdaság reported.
Orders have fallen steadily since last autumn, when Axe-Tronic started laying off staff. In the last round of redundancies, at the beginning of March, the company laid off 140 people.
Axe-Tronic had a staff of 1,500 in 2003. (MTI – Econews)
