Authorities review BChem shut-down

Hungary's National Catastrophe Protection Directorate (OKF) has closed a review of a forced shutdown at chemicals company BorsodChem because of faulty equipment on July 12, OKF's press department told MTI on Monday.

The OKF established that no staff were injured and the small volume of chemicals released posed no threat to the local population or the surrounding environment. The consequences of the event did not require outside help, thus fire fighters and catastrophe protection organisations were not called, it added.

The OKF noted, however, that BorsodChem had not immediately informed it of the shutdown as required.
