Professional association FruitVeb aims to boost annual output of Hungary's fruit and vegetable sector by a million tons to 3.5 - 4.0 million tons in the short term, association chief Béla Martonffy told MTI.
Raising output by such a degree will require HUF 100 - 150 billion in developments supported by HUF 50 - 60 billion in European Union funding, Martonffy said. The increase could create 100,000-150,000 jobs, he added.
Hungary's annual fruit and vegetable output has risen from a low of 2.1 million tons in 1992 to 2.6 - 2.7 million tons. (MTI – Econews)
