Almost one-fifth of Hungarian employers plan layoffs in 2010

Almost one-fifth of Hungarian employers plan to cut staff in the first quarter of 2010, according to a survey by global staffing company Manpower.

While 19% of the 750 employers surveyed by Manpower said they would reduce staff, just 12% said they would make new hires. More than 60% said, however, they did not see any reason to make layoffs in the new year. Hungary's unemployment rate averaged 10.4% in August-October, fresh data published at the end of November show. Unemployment is at a thirteen-year high.
