Air traffic in Hungary increased 4.45% in 2006, including a 5.52% rise in air traffic only passing through Hungarian air space, national air traffic controller HungaroControl said on Thursday.
The increase in air traffic slowed from about a 10% rise in 2005. HungaroControl said the number of aircraft taking off and landing at Budapest's Ferihegy International Airport increased 1.12% to nearly 130,000 in 2006. The number of aircraft only flying through Hungarian airspace reached 475,000. In a twelve-month comparison, the number of aircraft only flying through Hungarian airspace rose the most - by 15.2% - in January 2006.
The smallest increase, of 6.8%, was seen in October. July was the month with the most traffic, as about 56,000 aircraft passed through Hungarian airspace. The number of aircraft taking off and landing at Ferihegy Airport rose 4.9% year on year in August, the most of any month during the year in a twelve-month comparison. The biggest decline was seen in December, when take-offs and landings fell 4.4% year on year. August was the busiest month for the airport, with more than 12,000 take-offs and landings. (Mti-Eco)
