US carbon fiber maker Zoltek plans to spend several billion forints at its plant in Hungary over the next three years to boost production fivefold, Zsolt Rumy, head of Zoltek's Hungarian unit, said in Monday's issue of business daily Napi Gazdaság. Zoltek will add nine new production lines at the plant as part of the project, Rumy said. He added that the plant in Nyergesújfalu, northwest of Budapest, would become one of the largest carbon fiber plants in the world when the expansion is completed. Zoltek bought the plant in 1990 and gradually replaced acrylic fiber production with more profitable carbon fiber.
