Young jobless rate on the rise

On average, 3.874 million Hungarians were employed between December and February according to the latest report of the Central Statistics Office (KSH). This is 16,000 less than the average from November to January, and 27,000 lower than a year earlier. The number of registered unemployed increased from 275,000 in the November? January period to 286,000, up 38,000 year-on-year. The corresponding unemployment rates from December 2004 and February 2005 and a year earlier are 6.9% and 6.6%; Hungary?s unemployment rate is still lower than the EU average. Unemployment among those aged 15?24 also rose to 18.6%, with this age group accounting for one in five jobless.
