The government decided to give Ft 10 bln to 23 Volán companies in Hungary, which are responsible for regional bus traffic, daily Népszava reported. The money will be used to buy new buses, the government spokesperson said. Volán companies' bus fleet is currently 12 years old on average, but some buses are older than 20 years. The modernization project will replace the oldest buses first, then those older than ten years. Half of Volán buses are older than 15 years. On a related note, the government has granted a state guarantee for Budapest Transportation (BKV) Rt to take out a loan of Ft 15 bln.
