A total of USD 9 billion was invested by the United States in Hungary over the past 15 years, the Hungarian minister of economics said on Thursday. János Kóka said the United States was the third largest investor in Hungary in terms of FDI but if all American companies including ones outside the States were considered the U.S. was second after Germany. U.S. investment projects have created some 10,000 jobs in Hungary, the minister said. The minister added that during 2004, seven big projects costing Ft 80 billion were carried out in Hungary by giant companies like ExxonMobil, IBM, Cisco, General Motors and General Electric, resulting in 4,000 new job opportunities.
