SZDSZ opposes re-election of constitutional judges

The smaller government SZDSZ party opposes the re-election of Constitutional Court (AB) judges on principle, not because it objects to the candidates, the party's executive Gábor Fodor told the press on Wednesday. SZDSZ has no professional objections to the judges being considered for re-election, other than the fact that they have held the post before. Fodor argued that a potential re-election of an AB judge could influence decisions during service. SZDSZ believes there are plenty of Hungarian lawyers who are suitable to become AB judges and who have not held the position before, Fodor added. SZDSZ plans to propose an amendment to the law on the constitutional court to prevent the re-election of judges, Fodor said.
