The Education Ministry will replace the existing 2 million student cards with an updated model. The new advanced level cards can be used in the new chip card systems of public transportation and higher education students can store their electronic signatures on their cards as well, said Tibor Rovó, director of Educatio Kht, the company responsible for card procurement. The prices offered by the bidders for the tender invited by Educatio are not known as yet but experts estimate it costs about Ft 2,000 to produce a card. At present it costs the Ministry Ft 2-300,000 million a year to subsidy the student cards. According to daily Magyar Hirlap information the total costs of the new cards will be passed on the students. (MH 4) K.H.
