Strabag to build tire recycling plant

The German unit of Bauholding Strabag AG, an Austrian construction company, plans to build a recycling plant for used car tires in Hungary, business daily Napi Gazdaság said. The investment is estimated to be euro 5 million. The plant will be set up in former army barracks in Lenti, southwestern Hungary and is slated to start production at the end of 2006 and employ 100 people, the newspaper reported, citing the town's mayor László Nógrádi. Billed as central Europe's largest tire recycling factory, the plant will turn 16,000 tons of the hazardous waste into rubber flooring used in sports facilities and playgrounds as well as additives to asphalt.
