Hungarian State Secretary of Industry and Transport Tibor Szanyi, who co -ordinates economic relations with Israel in the government, held talks with Israel's
president, prime minister and several ministers on Wednesday and Thursday. President Moshe Katsav and the state secretary reviewed the development of bilateral political and economic relations. Szanyi said the Hungarian government would welcome a growing number of Israeli companies in Hungary and hoped they would see the country as a bridgehead for developing economic ties with other European Union member states. Meeting Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, the state secretary said that since the co-ordinator's post was established half a year ago, the two countries have signed an economic co-operation agreement that has lent a new dimension to developing economic ties. Szanyi welcomed the ongoing diversion of trade-centred economic ties to scientific and technological co-operation.
