Slower population decline

According to preliminary figures of the Central Statistics Office (KSH) 1,230 couples got married, 8,260 babies were born and 11,500 people died in January 2005. The number of marriages did not change, but stagnates at a permanent low level. The number of births continues to rise slowly since the end of last year and it was 3.8% higher than in the same period of 2003. The mortality rate got almost ten per cent slower, which is approx. 1,300 people less. The population of Hungary, including immigrants, was 10,095,000 in the first month of 2005, the population declined at a slower pace.
