January?s 38% hotel occupancy rate was unchanged from last year, the figures of the Central Statistics Office (KSH) show. In the four- and five-star category, hotel rooms increased at a faster than average rate, but the same went for the number of guests as well. Guests paid an average Ft 13,400 for a hotel room in January 2004, up Ft 1,200 from a year before. In the meantime, the average revenue per hotel room, occupied or unoccupied, rose from Ft 4,700, to Ft 5,100. Hotels? combined sales rose 13% yr/yr from January 2003 to January 2004. The fastest rate of revenue increase took place at three-star motels in eastern Hungary and four-star establishments at Lake Balaton.
