Publicly traded pharmaceutical Richter Gedeon Rt lost a lawsuit to Japanese generic drugmaker Sawai. The Japanese Highest Court rejected Richter?s claim that Sawai violated its propritetary rights pertaining to a medication used for treating stomach and gastric ulcers and containing the active ingredient famotidine. Spokeswoman Zsuzsa Beke said the verdict did not come as a surprise, adding that the decision is unlikely to affect Richter?s U.S. exports or its position in the Japanese market. The resulting revenue losses expected by the company are ?insignificant?, according to Beke.
