Real wages up in January-April

Real wages rose by 8.4% in the first four months of 2005, year-on-year, Central Statistics Office
(KSH) reported. In the business sector, gross monthly wages rose 6.4% in April
year-on-year while net wages were up 8% from the previous year. The
rise was about the same in the January-April period, compared to the
same period last year. In the public sector, gross monthly wages were up 6.9% in the
twelve months to April, while net wages rose 9.2%. Four-month gross
wages rose 22.7% or 21.4% net yr/yr. In the first four months, gross wages were
up 11.9% and net wages rose 12.3%, year-on-year. Full-time employees had an average gross monthly wage of Ft 157,500 (EUR 633.7) in January-April, or Ft 165,100 including non-wage contributions (EUR 664.3). The net average monthly wage was
Ft 102,700 (EUR 413.2) in the first four months of the year.
