Real Estate Council urges qualifications

Hungary needs to establish professional criteria for the realtor trade in order to keep unqualified and unethical sellers off the market, according to Tibor Mireisz, one of the head of the Hungarian Real Estate Council. Currently there are no professional qualifications required for people to operate as realtors. They must simply set up a realtor's business, Mireisz said. This leaves the market open to untrained, unqualified people. To solve the problem, a professional body for realtors needs to be set up, much like the professional bodies for doctors and lawyers. The body, with the backing of the law, would regulate realtors' qualifications and act against unethical behaviour by excluding offending realtors from membership in the body, Mireisz said.
