Laboratory tests have now proven that the death of a poultry processing plant employee in SE Hungary last week was indeed caused by parrot fever, the local public health officer said on Friday. Ferenc Kovács said that two other people had been tested positive for the disease, while tests for five others were still underway. Kovács reiterated that nobody had died of parrot fever in Hungary since the 1970's, but in jobs involving contact with a large number of birds the risk of the infection was inherent. The officer reiterated that parrot fever had nothing to do with bird flu. (MTI)
