Hungary's population decreased by 13,000 or 0.45% in the first half of this year compared to the same period in 2004, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) said on Monday. The number of births rose by 3.4% and there were 2.7% more deaths, with 47,400 babies born and 70,000 people dying. The gap between deaths and births was 22,600, but due to the positive balance of international migration, Hungary's total population decreased by only 13,000 and totaled 10,085,000 at the end of June. The number of new marriages stayed at 3.7 per 1,000 people.
