A major state procurement tender aimed to upgrade the police force?s 4000-strong but aging car fleet is soon to be announced by the Prime Minister?s Office (MH), HVG said quoting unnamed sources. The Finance and Interior Ministries are currently in talks to decide between alternative financing schemes with the former favoring leasing, while the latter plumping for an installment plan. The deal, valued a total Ft 18 billion, is expected to run until 2007 and add some 3,000 new cars to the police?s current pool of 4,300, 60% of which has already passed its replacement mileage. The Interior Ministry will also call a tender this year to set up a uniform digital communications system for the police force as required by the Schengen Treaty.
