PM pledges to help small farmers

The prime minister announced the government's plans for a farmland program and called for reducing inequalities among pensioners at a national forum for civic and pensioners' organizations in Battonya, SE Hungary, on Saturday. Ferenc Gyurcsány said there were several hundred thousands of hectares of land in state ownership which could be distributed and sold in a program soon to be announced. "It is time that small-scale farms were helped to land in one way or another, perhaps aided by long-term loans," Gyurcsány said. (MTI; Nb 1, Nv 3)
