Swiss white minerals company Omya AG opened a new Ft 10 billion limestone processing plant in Eger on Friday. The state subsidized the construction with Ft 150 million. Half of the plant's 720,000 ton annual output of calcium carbonate will be used for desulphurisation at the Matra Power Plant, and the rest will be purchased by the chemicals and construction industry. The plant has a rail connection as well as a road and will employ 50 people. Omya's Hungarian unit generated revenue of Ft 6 billion in 2004, compared to Ft 4 billion a year earlier.
