Number of phone lines continues to fall in September

The number of landline connections in Hungary fell more than 15,000 to 3.42 million from August to September, the National Communications Authority (NHH) announced on Tuesday. The number of lines per 100 people decreased from 34.08 in August to 33.93, dropping from 35.33 in a year. According to figures from Hungary's five significant market players, Emitel, Hungarotel, Magyar Telekom, Monortel and Invitel, the number of landlines decreased 144,000 in the first nine months of 2005, and 148,000 in the last 12 months. Landlines fell 59,000, or 1.7%, in Q3.
