Hungary?s No. 2 cell phone company Pannon GSM has signed an agrement with Nokia Oyj for the expansion and development of its network, the two companies said. In addition to supplying network equipment to allow Pannon to upgrade its network to EDGE standard in greater Budapest, Nokia will also deliver part of the core network infrastructure required to implement nationwide 3G service (UMTS). The agreement complements a contract Pannon finalized with Ericsson earlier this year, with the two suppliers getting a roughly equal share of the orders related to the development of the core network, Pannon Deputy CEO in charge of operations József Huszlicska said, adding that the elements of the latter are located in 13 cities and towns throughout Hungary.
